Rather than simply telling you what to do, every lesson follows a proven four-step learning process designed to help you understand the "why" behind every exercise, build confidence with every repetition, and develop skills that last long after the course is complete.

Step 1
Learn the "Why" First
Every session begins with a brief overview of the day's lesson.
Before we ever pick up the leash, I'll explain the purpose, mechanics, and goals behind each new skill so you understand exactly what you're teaching, why it matters, and how it helps you communicate more effectively with your dog.
When you understand the reason behind an exercise, training becomes more intuitive, consistent, and rewarding.

Step 2
Watch the Skill in Action
With your permission, I'll demonstrate the new behavior using your dog while explaining each step along the way.
Watching the exercise unfold in real time allows you to observe proper timing, body language, reward placement, and communication before you try it yourself.

This demonstration also gives your dog an early introduction to the exercise, making it easier for both of you when it's your turn to practice.

Step 3
Practice Without the Pressure
Before working directly with your dog, we'll rehearse the mechanics together.
​
Without the distraction of handling your pup, you can focus on your timing, hand placement, leash handling, reward delivery, and overall technique.
​
This allows you to feel comfortable and confident before combining all the pieces with your dog.

Step 4
Train Together with Coaching & Feedback
Once you're ready, we'll put everything into practice together.

You'll work directly with your dog while I provide personalized coaching, encouragement, and real-time feedback throughout the lesson.

As your confidence grows, you'll gain the skills needed to continue practicing successfully at home while preparing for the next level of training.

Continue the Learning at Home
Every lesson includes a convenient 5 × 8 Training Cue Card that summarizes the skills covered during your session.

Your personalized reference card provides step-by-step reminders, key training tips, and home practice recommendations so you always know exactly what to work on between lessons.

No note-taking is required—just enjoy learning with your dog and leave with a clear plan for continued success.
