At 101 Pet Parenting, I believe dog training should be simple, enjoyable, and easy to understand—for both you and your dog.

 

Instead of overwhelming you with information or expecting instant perfection, every lesson follows a structured learning process that builds confidence one step at a time.

Each private session is designed to help you understand "why" you're teaching a skill, "how" to teach it correctly, and "how" to continue practicing successfully at home.

Step 1: Learn the "Why"
 

Every lesson begins with a brief overview of the day's training plan.

Before we ask your dog to do anything, I'll explain:
 

• Why we're teaching the skill

• How it improves everyday life

• The mechanics behind the exercise

• What success looks like

When you understand the purpose behind each behavior, training becomes much more intuitive and rewarding.

Step 2: Watch the Skill in Action

With your permission, I'll demonstrate the new cue or exercise using your dog.

Watching the skill performed correctly allows you to clearly see:
 

• Proper timing

• Reward placement

• Body language

• Communication techniques

• Common mistakes to avoid

This demonstration also gives your dog an opportunity to begin learning the behavior before you ever take the leash.

By the time it's your turn, your dog already has a solid foundation, making the learning process smoother and more successful.

Step 3: Practice Without the Pressure

Before working with your dog, we'll practice the mechanics together without your pup.

This simple step allows you to:
 

• Build confidence

• Improve your timing

• Learn proper leash handling

• Become comfortable with each movement

• Ask questions before practicing with your dog

Removing the pressure helps you focus on learning the technique first, so you feel prepared when it's time to train together.

Step 4: Train Together With Coaching & Feedback

Once you're comfortable, you'll begin practicing with your dog while I coach you every step of the way.

During this hands-on portion of the lesson, you'll receive:
 

• Real-time coaching

• Immediate feedback

• Positive encouragement

• Small adjustments that create big improvements

• Personalized guidance based on your dog's learning style

The goal isn't simply getting your dog to perform a behavior during class—it's making sure you leave knowing exactly how to continue practicing successfully at home.

Every lesson includes a professionally designed 5 × 8 take-home training card that summarizes everything covered during your session.

Each cue card includes:

• Homework for the week

These quick-reference guides make practicing at home simple, organized, and stress-free.
